The Nigerian Army has urged residents across the South-East to disregard a new viral “sit-at-home” threat circulating online, describing it as a baseless hoax designed by criminal elements to spread panic and disrupt economic activities.

In a strongly worded statement titled “South East is Open and Secured for Business on 20 November 2025 and Beyond,” Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 82 Division, Lt. Col. Olabisi Ayeni, assured citizens that freedom of movement remains fully protected. “Residents are free to conduct their lawful activities without fear or hindrance. There will be peaceful coexistence and economic activities will thrive,” he declared.

The Army confirmed that robust joint deployments involving the military, police, and other security agencies are already in place to safeguard lives, property, and critical infrastructure. Ayeni warned that anyone attempting to enforce the fake order “will be decisively dealt with according to the law.”

The reassurance came on the same day Justice James Omotosho delivered judgment in IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu’s terrorism trial in Abuja, a development that heightened tension in the region. Security forces have since intensified patrols and intelligence operations to prevent any disruption.

Citizens were urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, with the Army reiterating its call: “If you see something, say something.”
